چکیده

This paper describes WCourEva, a new Web-based course evaluation system being developed at the University of Nagasaki. WCourEva is intended to assist administrative staff in defining a default questionnaire for each academic unit as well as additional customized questionnaires for individual instructors. The advantages include easy development and maintenance of the default and additional questionnaires, automatic generation of Web pages for filling out a questionnaire using XML, and bidirectional communication between the instructor and anonymous students. Analysis of course evaluation results from various points of view is aided by automatically generated summaries, and a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet is generated that presents a consolidate view of students’ feedback on the courseware. Instructors can harness the vast data presentation capabilities of the Microsoft Excel 2003 package to replace the bar chart with any convenient type of graph and to compare their evaluation results with those of previous academic years.

Algorithmic Design Using Object-Z for Twig XML Queries Evaluation

Web technologies based on XML, e.g. Semantic Web and Web Services, facilitate Web automation and universally accessible content. One of the key factors for the success of XML-based technologies is of finding an efficient query evaluation algorithm for XMLbased data models. An XML twig query is a complex selection predicate on both structure and content of a labelled XML document. Several novel ...

Integrating XML Technologies and Open Source Software for Personalization in E-Learning

Web-based distance learning, which is commonly referred to as e-learning, emphasizes learnercentered activity and system interactivity. Therefore, remote learners can potentially outperform traditional classroom students (Zhang, Zhao, Zhou, & Nunamaker, 2004). The development of an e-learning system typically requires the use of standardized Web technologies to transmit dynamic content to stude...

From CD-ROM to Web-Served: Reverse Engineering of an Interactive Multimedia Course

The Web offers advantages for Learning Technologies, but the interactivity necessary for the learner requires technical features that are currently hardly supported. In the paper, we briefly describe how a traditional Multimedia Course, usually marketed as off-line CD-ROMs, has been reverse engineered to a server-based, multi-client Web application in order to have an identical behaviour at the...
